The Successful Closure of the SSI-L Project Seminar at Yuxin School Attached to Capital Normal University (2023-10-07)

On the afternoon of October 7, 2023, the Yuxin School Attached to CNU’s SSI-L Collaborative Research Project seminar was successfully held in the conference room of the Middle School Department Library. Lin Jing, head of the SSI-L Project Team and director of the Science Development Department of the Collaborative Innovation Center of Assessment for Basic Education Quality at Beijing Normal University, and Peng Menghua, head of the Disciplinary Guidance Expert Team of the SSI-L Project and a Special-Rank Teacher of the Second High School Attached to BNU, attended the meeting and discussed with Tang Feng, director of the curriculum center of Yuxin School Attached to CNU, Cao Xuelong, director of the grade department, and teachers from the eight-grade project team, about high-quality course implementation.

The meeting began with director Tang Feng’s introduction of the school’s SSI-L project implementation in this semester, and the confusion during the implementation process, that is how to improve the educational effectiveness of the course with goal-focused SSI learning evaluation. Lin Jing suggested that the school should clarify some important concepts, such as evaluation objectives, evaluation tasks, and evaluation rubrics. She then took the example of the activity “Drawing a Winemaking Flowchart”, focused on scientific argumentation abilities and artistic literacy, and made suggestions on the evaluation dimensions of students’ SSI learning in this activity. From a goal-oriented perspective, the participants further sorted out and optimized the specific implementation strategies and methods of the activity — “Drawing a Winemaking Flowchart”. After the discussion, the participants agreed that the optimized SSI course activities are more targeted and focused, which helps implement process evaluation, and promotes the integration of teaching, learning, and evaluation.

After a good afternoon’s discussion, experts and teachers had idea collisions and inspirations from each other. The exchange and discussion provided practical actionable recommendations for the smooth and effective implementation of SSI-L projects.
