Introduction of SSI Learning project

SSI Learning(Socio-scientific Issues Learning),即社会性科学议题学习,是围绕与科学技术密切相关的复杂社会性问题开展的学习。SSI Learning项目是在科学素养提升联盟(AISL)的背景下,由北京师范大学中国基础教育质量监测协同创新中心与美国北卡罗来纳大学教堂山分校大学联合发起的科学教育合作项目。

项目以中小学基地校为实施主体,通过引领和帮助基地校教师设计和实施一系列面向青少年的社会性科学议题学习活动,旨在促进学生科学素养、学生发展核心素养的整合性提升,并助推立德树人示范学校与示范区域的形成。

项目办公室设在北京师范大学中国基础教育质量监测协同创新中心科学提升部。项目办公室组织境内外专家成立项目学科指导专家组,以支持和服务于基地校开展SSI学习研究与实施的专业引领和专业服务。基地校开展的研究工作包括:建立项目合作机制和研究团队、研发和实施SSI学习活动、开展SSI学习活动实施的实证研究。

目前项目基地校初步拟定为64所,分别来自北京、上海、浙江、山东、山西、陕西、辽宁、黑龙江、湖南、四川、贵州等省份或地区。并专门设立四大区域合作基地,分别是北京区域、浙江区域、山东区域和山西区域,以充分发挥区域与基地校的辐射与带动作用。后续根据各地学校实际开展项目情况,择优确定基地校名单并颁发基地校证书。

Socio-scientific Issues Learning (SSI-L) is a learning project focused on complex social issues related to science and technology,which is jointly initiated by Collaborative Innovation Center of Assessment for Basic Education Quality at Beijing Normal University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and managed by the Alliance for Improving Scientific Literacy (AISL).

The project will guide and assist the teachers in the partner schools to design and implement a series of SSI Learning activities for teenagers with an aim to improve students’ scientific literacy and key competence. Hopefully, to establish exemplar schools and regions of moral education and talent training.

The project office is set at the Department of Science Education Quality development of Collaborative Innovation Center of Assessment for Basic Education Quality at Beijing Normal University. An academic steering team of experts at home and abroad is set up by the office to provide professional guidance and support for the SSI Learning research and work of partner schools, such as establishing project cooperation mechanism and research team, designing and launching SSI Learning activities, and conducting empirical study for such activities.

Thus far, the project has initially selected 39 partner schools from provinces and regions such as Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Hunan, Sichuan, and Guizhou and established four regional cooperation bases in Beijing, Zhejiang, Shandong and Shanxi. These schools and regions aforementioned will promote the development and expand the coverage of the project. In the future, the list of partner schools will be finalized according to their performance in the project and a base school certificate will be issued to each school.
