On November 6, 2024, from 19:00 to 20:30, the Xieying Program of SSI-L Project held its monthly seminar via Tencent Meeting. The seminar focused on the course progress, current teaching practices, and future plans. The seminar was chaired by SSI-L project member Luo Chengji, with SSI-L project leader Lin Jing, other project office members, and faculty teams from the two participating schools of the Xieying Program the Experimental High School Attached To Beijing Normal University and the Asia-Pacific Experimental School of Beijing Normal University — joining the discussion online.

At the outset of the seminar, Wang Cheng from the Experimental High School Attached To Beijing Normal University, Jia Jie from the primary school division, and Liu Caihe from the middle school division of the Asia-Pacific Experimental School shared the challenges encountered during the implementation of the SSI-L curriculum. Jia Jie and Wang Cheng also shared insights and achievements gained from their curriculum implementation and discussions. Additionally, Wu Huina from the Asia-Pacific Experimental School expressed her delight at witnessing significant progress and innovation in her students’ engagement with SSI-L in the classroom. Other participating teachers and SSI-L project office members engaged in in-depth discussions and exchange of the issues raised during the seminar and strategies for the subsequent stages of curriculum teaching.

Lin Jing, the project leader, delivered a summary at the conclusion of the seminar. She highly commended the collective collaboration of the team and the notable achievements in classroom implementation. She suggested that teachers should pay close attention to classroom rhythm and manage the pacing of classroom activities to save time and maximize class efficiency. Lin emphasized that teachers should refrain from hastily evaluating students responses when posing open-ended questions to stimulate student thinking, but rather encourage peer interaction and intellectual exchange to create space and opportunities for student generative learning. In the meantime, teachers should provide explicit guidance on developing students’ skills for effective group collaboration.

Through this monthly seminar, participants addressed challenges in curriculum implementation and exchanged exemplary teaching practices between the two schools. These exchanges will further facilitate the efficient and effective implementation of the SSI-L curriculum across both institutions.
